How to combine wheat and and a famous actor...

Okay, I might not be the world's number one fan of the most famous celebrity couple (as of now) but surely, everyone knows how to spell Brangelina's names. Apart from each other, of course. Which is why I find it amusing when I see one or the others names butchered. Now, I know this clearly must have been a misunderstanding. How ever would this have happened otherwise? Wondering much about what I'm talking about? Here it is!

Makes you wonder if christening couples with nicknames is a good idea, right? Especially when people start forgetting the correct spelling of your name. (click on the pic to be transferred to the site)

This is a commendable project otherwise. For people to think of a solution rather than just rebuilding a new home is something ingenious and time-appropriate. Hopefully, these homes will be created elsewhere.

Lists of Oddities and All Of My Favorite Things

I love lists. especially ones minus the ranking (which would lead to squabbling and fights over who should be placed on the highest rank). This site, Oddee.com, and within are so many lists it is quite hard to trawl the whole site.

Here are some of the best lists I could find:

Embracing and unleashing your inner geek:
10 Geekiest T-Shirts - Currently wanting (for my sister and her boyfriend) the shirt that measures how near you are to your beau.
10 Geekiest Panties - loving the "username... password" pink panty and the "403 forbidden" panty ... LOL

OVERHEARD is AT THE BEACH!!!

With Overheard crawling with many useful (or not) excerpts of daily conversation, the makers of the site has once again proven that fun could come from many unexpected places.

Being OVERHEARD

There's a thin line differentiating accidentally overhearing something to spying or eavesdropping on a conversation. And most of us had already experienced one time or another hearing a conversation that made you want to laugh out loud, wherever you may be. To those who want to share their experiences or read about other people's experiences of the like, go to OverheardInTheOffice.com. So many wonderful quotes about daily office life from everyday people. Some might be quite hard to decipher, but others are just simply hilarious. Their co-workers should be given a gold medal for their thoughts. Here are some of the most striking thoughts I've seen so far...
This website is directly connected to another website, OverheardEverywhere.com which in turn posts snips of conversations from all walks of life. Have a sample taste here:

And once there, you could also visit another website, CelebrityWit.com that would make you think that celebrities are also human and are prone to slip-ups in terms of their thoughts (Freudian slips, anyone?).

Loves all of it!!!

MTV VMA's 2009... so cute!

As award shows descend upon us, we are fed with various promos and commercials showing that these and these shows are nominated for these and these awards. MTV does it differently. Being the leading music video channel in the whole world, it needs to have its own award show. But the similarity ends there. Just to show how different they are, they have created these two promo videos for the VMA's.

Russel Brand and Britney Spears 2009 MTV VMA promo vid

VMA Side Story (starring Cobra Starship, Leighton Meester, Ne-Yo, Katy Perry, Russel Brand, and Taylor Swift) -> parody from West Side Story.

And just in case you were wondering, here is Britney Spears' and Russel Brand's 2008 MTV VMA promo vid.

I Know I will be waiting for the VMA's... will you?

Thanks to YouTube for these videos.

Music's Most Random Lists by Rob O' Connor

Random lists intrigue people, especially if it is about something as universal as music. Rob O' Connor's music lists irk and amuse at the same time. Who could not help but love the way he disses and praises artists of all genres of any generation? To give him his due, there are articles in his blog that are really, weirdly, true.

Here's a taste of some of his memorable blog posts:

Blogthings: Garden-Variety Tests?... NOT!!!

Blogthings has been around for many years. Many of us would recall posting their tests on our social networking sites and asking our friends to take the same tests. "Coco Perez" by Perez Hilton

While this may sound like a line from one of those high-end haute couture brands, that thought may not be as far fetched as it seems. Presenting CocoPerez, a new blog by celebrity blogger Perez Hilton, the same person who brought us PerezHilton.com. The latter blog serves as both personal blog and celebrity news blog of Perez (or as he calls himself, P-Nasty). The former, on the other hand, serves as a fashion blog with upcoming trends, celebrity sightings, news, all of which are related to fashion.

Why is this blog worthy of time? Mostly because Perez himself does not go by any style. I do agree with him that though he himself is not a fashion designer, he knows what looks good, what is funky, and most importantly, what is in style. Being fashion forward always seemed to be his best attribute since bursting into the blogging scene with his shrieking pink hair. Loves it, by the way.

Here are pics of the blog to get you going...

Blogs of Note

Starting a blog is quite hard. Especially if you want to have subscribers or readers. Anyhow, the requisite for creating a good blog is to have a specific topic that readers would recommend the site to those who are also looking for things within your criterion. To those who are creating a personal blog, then this does not apply. But if you are looking to commercialize and capitalize on the blog, then make sure that you plan to have one specific topic to discuss, otherwise, none of your readers will understand your concept.

Here are some blogs of note:

The Onion: Bound to Give You Tears (of joy)

The Onion is generally a website that looks like a regular news website. IT'S NOT! They have a different take on many news that may seem weird. They make it more... should I say wacky? Things get a lot weirder, and yet, somehow they make making this type of news, work!

Anyhow, there are many things to check out from their website. One of which is their daily news. The headlines are divided into: Video, Radio, Sports, Politics, World, Economy, Sci/Tech, Entertainment, Opinion, Local, and News Archive. One could also check out minor sections like:
Horoscope - think: unconventional
Statshot - makes wonderful graphs and percentage charts of ingenious ideas.
The Onion Store - commonplace items with not-so-common quotations, uses, and designs.
The A.V. Club - generally an audio-visual site that is connected (slightly) to The Onion.

Here are some samples of what you will find in the website.
Typical Headline:

Philippines Online Shopping

With a barrage of online auction websites cropping up on the web (e.g. Ebay.ph, Auction.ph), one tends to wonder if there are other shops or stores with which you could avail online shopping from. There are many online shopping portals available by typing "online shop Philippines" on your search box but, just a reminder, the currency used here is dollars and not the Philippine peso.

Here are some online stores that you could visit for basis or for shopping:

World Press Photo Exhibit: Free at your nearest mall!

Sometimes window shopping and just simply hanging out in the mall brings a lot o surprises. Especially if you happen to just visit it once a month, or even once a week. Everyday, there's something new to discover at the mall. So naturally, if one has always been a mall-hopper, there are some things that might not be as surprising to them. Anyhow, as I was browsing the mall, carrying my tea latte, I was not so surprised to see a grand piano in the middle of the hall (as I said, mall hoppers are rarely surprised). But what caught my eye were these gigantic pictures situated just around the area where the piano was placed. At first, they looked like paintings, some vaguely looking like out of this world concepts. But as I peered closer, I found that these were not paintings but actual photos taken during late 2008 and early 2009. With the wonderful piano music floating around serenely (the song, by the way, was "Love Story"), I decided to look closer at the photos that were being exhibited.

The exhibit is from a non-government organization called World Press Photo. In their online gallery, the photos are the winners from their annual press photography contest. Never have photographs been more compelling. It is a simple yet profound look at how the world is today. Such photos evoke strong emotions and, while these may simply be one-dimensional things, they certainly tell a wonderful story. Looking at the pictures makes one feel like a child who opened their first book which is undoubtedly filled with different photographs. Unfortunately, this fairytale rarely ends in a happy ending.

Hopefully, more people come to see the exhibit before it is shown to another country. Here are the malls where you could catch the exhibit.

"10 Things I Hate About You" now on TV

From the 1999 movie "10 Things I Hate About You" starring Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles comes the television series "10 Things I Hate About You", exactly 10 years after the movie was released. New twists, plots, and a whole new cast puts the series into a new perspective. The story is loosely based on Shakespeare's "The Taming of the Shrew". a quick description of the series would be: quirky, cool, all around fun(to the max).

Here's a comparative analysis on the old and new cast members:
Patrick Verona
Heath Ledger's portrayal of the character is very different from Ethan Peck's version. Ledger gave the character a bit of naughtiness combined with a bad-boy image. He was most famous in the movie for his rousing rendition of "Can't Take My Eyes Off You". Ethan Peck, on the other hand, does a more brooding, yet bad-ass image. We have yet to see more of what he could bring to the character, but rising on my list is his voice and when he took off his shirt on episode 5 of the series. Could I say... can't take my eyes off that yumminess?

Kat Stratford
Julia Stiles played a Kat that was artsy, sensitive soul who knew how to connect with Bianca. The rebel with just cause. Lindsey Shaw, on the other hand, plays a Kat that is ultimately tough and a strict feminist. Not one to play into other people's hands.

Bianca Stratford
Larisa Oleynik played a girl who, simply, just wanted to have a love life. She portrayed the popular girl, a trendsetter, and a very sensitive soul, despite the shallow exterior. Meaghan Jette Martin showed a Bianca who's ultimate goal is to become the most popular girl in school. Having no illusions about going on dates, she diverts her attention to becoming a cheerleader.

Cameron James
Almost no visible difference in character. Almost. While Joseph Gordon- Levitt's Cameron was the new comer in the movie (was taking cues from Michael due to this) and a bit of a misnomer in their high school, Nicholas Braun's Cameron had a history of his own. His character is not one to be bullied, though he may have had a bad reputation in the school crowd.
Mandella
Susan May Pratt's character was more demure and artsy, just the right combination with Julia Stiles. There is a certain vulnerability and frailty in her that she constantly remains in Kat's shadow. Jolene Purdy's character, on the other hand, is a the perfect wrap to Lyndsey Shaw's Kat. Her toughness, added to her hero-worship-of-some-sort to Kat, makes her a tough comrade.

Michael
While with most of the characters, there is a visible difference on the actors take, these two generally has the same idea. Belonging to the geeks/dorks/nerds of Padua High, they give unhelpful advice to each of their respective Camerons, and laughter ensues. David Krumholtz's character is quite the smarty-pants while Kyle Kaplan's is more of a general, run-of-the-mill dork.

Chastity
Gabrielle Union's Chastity was both best friend and enemy of Bianca. Her character is not that pronounced in the film although at the end, we see a bit of development in terms of her story. Dana Davis' Chastity, on the other hand, is basically the cheerleader from hell. She proceeds to make Bianca's life miserable when she sees that her power is being threatened.

Joey
Though both characters have modeling as their goals, Andrew Keegan's Joey was a bit of a cool dude, who has absolutely no care about others, just his image. A bit of asly fox would be an apt description for his attitude. On the other hand, Chris Zylka's Joey was more of a stereotypical jock (all brawns - no brain).

Unique... or just simply Strange Hotels

About a month ago, Yahoo! listed some of the unique hotels to be found in the whole world. Take note, though, that most of these hotels are still in its conceptual stage and might not make it to fruition. Bummer, right? Fortunately, while we are anxiously waiting for ground-breaking news on those wonderfully designed hotels, we may try out some of the world's unique hotels that have been around for a few years.

Jet-set to EUROPE!

As themed hotels go, this is one hotel complex you would not want to miss. With different colors and themes in every room, there is certainly something to catch your fancy in the Propeller Island City Lodge in Berlin, Germany. From the circus themed "Two Lions", a crypt theme called "Gruft", rooms full of symbols, mirrors, a topsy-turvy room, and the like, one could never be bored.

A floating shed? Is that really a hotel? One could not fathom how one small house could hold all the necessary amenities of a usual hotel room. But for the creators of Utter Inn, in Sweden, that was not a problem. That is in fact a floating hotel, and underneath the shed is the room that would house visitors. From both the top and bottom part of the hotel, you could view the fish in their natural habitat. Fancy a tan, go to the deck for a bit of sunbathing. The place is totally private, as you are brought their by boat and left alone after imparting instructions. How's that for some alone time with your hubby?

Fancy having a James Bond moment? Why not try the Capsule Hotel, from Den Haag, Netherlands. Made from real survival pods used in the marines, it is virtually indestructible. It is also set in water, which makes it like a ginormous water bed, er... room. But don't worry about it drifting away from the shore because it is securely anchored.

Next trip: ASIA!

Talking about capsule hotels, Japan has its very own version of the "Capsule Hotel". Almost like a blast from "The Fifth Element", these sleeping compartments are stacked one on top of the other like apartments. Inside is a small TV, wireless internet, air-conditioning vents, and lights. Baths and toilets are communal though. Lockers are provided for your things, and this is the most affordable, albeit not too comfy, accommodation in Tokyo (granted you are not claustrophobic).

With a boom in the love industry, Japan has come up with "Love Hotels". Yes, that is absolutely right. Love Hotels are actually quite popular in Japan, with other countries following suite after seeing the success of this business venture. Aside from the unique rooms, equipment, and display that bombards you as you enter, the fact that it is cheap, clean, and very private is enough to make you decide on sleeping at one rather than the largely populated hotels of Central Tokyo.

Last, but not the least, AMERICA!

With room names like "Geisha Garden", "Cupid's Corner", "Casino Royale", "Caesare's Court" and "Arabian Night", it is no wonder that many flock to the Fantasuite Hotels. So much so that in North America they already have two branches of the hotel. Both of the branches offer a wide variety of themed rooms, though the selection is different with each hotel.

Picture a mountain, almost covered by water flowing from the top like a volcanic eruption. Get the picture? That is the scene that will greet you when you visit the Magic Mountain Hotel in Panguipulli, X Region, Chile. Inside, you will be transported into a wonderful log cabin, quite the opposite from the harsh yet eye-catching exterior of the hotel.

Enjoying nature much? How about a trip to the Amazon. The Ariau Amazon Tower Hotel is a huge (and I mean, HUGE!!!) complex of tree houses that is situated right in the Amazon Rainforest, Manaus, Brazil. Walkways are available to transfer each individual to their room, all of which looks almost like a tree house, but not quite a regular tree house. Enjoy a one of a kind experience away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

"The Dead Can Twitter"

With the news of Micheal Jackson's death, an internet hoax, about other celebrities who died, came back (resurrected so it would seem). Stephen Colbert did not miss this opportunity and made a skit about it in his late night Comedy Central show: The Colbert Report.

The Colbert Report generally talks about trends in politics, sciences, and sometimes television. But being part of Comedy Central, do not expect to see the regular news anchors and segments one would see in the usual news programs. Colbert gives a different twist to the term satire with each of his antics on cam.

As reported prior to the taping of this segment, Jeff Goldblum ("Jurassic Park", "The Lost World", "Independence Day") apparently died due to an accident, so the news claimed. Via his Twitter account, Stephen Colbert relates to the audience updates regarding this untimely news. And how quickly the audience is disabused of this.

Worth1000: A Graphic Gem

There are times when the usual celebrity websites fascinate you about more than the breakdowns, breakups, and cat fights in the business. They sometimes (read that as SOMETIMES) strike gold by introducing websites, artists, etc, mostly for those with unique tastes and have been bored with the news. Worth1000 is a website that would undoubtedly cater to a very extraordinary set of audience who could appreciate "modern" art. Both Perez Hilton and TMZ found that this website has such an interesting art, but focused only on celebrity art; "Celebs in Art" and "Renaissance Celebs" respectively.

Worth1000 is a website that mainly hosts contests on unique photos. After which, the winners get a prize as well as have their pictures hosted by the website itself. Not bad for those geniuses. The website is sure to keep you entertained and imaginative for hours on end.

Here's a picture done by Favardin entitled "Slingshot" for the contest "Alternate Transportation 5"
Note: Made especially for people who'd like to procrastinate while working.
